Vernon and Maz, Inc. originally known as Vernon and Sons was founded in 1930 by Ernest A. Vernon. The business started as a custom print shop in Blue Island, Illinois. Vernon and Sons produced the first newspaper published in Bremen Township, “The Country Marketer”. Along with the newspaper many other custom print items were produced. Ernest A. Vernon ran the business for the next 38 years.

In 1968 Robert A. Vernon purchased the business from his father. Robert began to take the business in a different direction. In the early 1970’s Robert invented the dry stick decal, but due to the existing materials used in the process, he was unable to attain a patent. Robert along with his son Robert Jr. continued in the decal industry and in 1996 purchased a then state of the art large format electrostatic printer. This machine was capable of producing large format full color printing on self adhesive vinyl.

In October of 1996, Vernon and Son hired a new employee, Brian Mazurek. Brian was also employed by the St. Louis Cardinals as a professional baseball player at that time. Brian was brought in to work on a specialty project for Robert. Before returning to spring training in March of 1997, Brian was asked to return to Vernon and Son following his baseball season. This went on for the next 3 years and in the fall of 2000, Brian retired from baseball. With a successful baseball career behind him, Brian was able to focus solely on Vernon and Son. Together Robert and Brian began devising a plan for the future buyout of the business. On June 1, 2001 the sale and corporate name change were complete. Now known as Vernon and Maz, Inc., Brian M. Mazurek set out in the 21st Century to lead a company with a long history into a vastly growing industry.

Endeavoring into new markets and continuing to move forward Vernon and Maz celebrated their 75th Anniversary in 2005.

The Future, to be continued…
